President Trump has rightly hogged most of the nation's attention during the month of January, but Dusty Deevers, a state senator from District 32 in the Wichita Mountains of southwest Oklahoma, has been busy behind the scenes. In the past few weeks, he has filed dozens of new bills in the Oklahoma Senate that, if enacted, would be transformational for Oklahomans.
Bitcoin Freedom
Senator Deevers actually got started back in late December, filing the “Bitcoin Freedom Act”. Announced on January 8th, this legislation would allow Oklahoma employees to opt to receive payment in Bitcoin and allow vendors to accept Bitcoin payments. Commenting on this bill, Deevers said: “There is a reason President Trump campaigned heavily as a pro-Bitcoin candidate and spoke at prominent Bitcoin events. Bitcoin has arrived into the mainstream of our economy and is unquestionably a significant part of the financial future.”
Feral Hogs, Diesel, and Defense
During the following weeks, Senator Deevers announced three more measures. The first was a “Free to Hunt Feral Hogs” bill, which aims to cut regulations surrounding the hunting of feral hogs in the state, which have caused massive damage to rural Oklahoma. The second was the “Diesel Engine Freedom Act”, which “protects the rights of Oklahomans to own, operate, and manufacture diesel engines free from burdensome EPA regulations.” And the third was the “Defend the Guard Act”, which makes sure that Oklahoma’s National Guard cannot be deployed into combat unless Congress formally declares war.
Eliminating Taxes
Then on January 15th, Deevers announced his most aggressive batch of measures yet, including bills to eliminate the state and corporate income tax, lowering oil and gas taxes, and reduce various other taxes to zero by 2029. In defending these tax cuts, Deevers commented: “Eliminating Oklahoma’s income tax will empower families, boost local businesses with reinvestable capital, and position the state as a premier destination for talent, innovation, and enterprise, creating a thriving economy driven by growth, opportunity, and long-term prosperity.”
Abolishing Abortion and Covenant Marriage
But Deevers was not finished. On January 22, he announced another round of legislation aiming to “Restore Moral Sanity in Oklahoma”. These new bills include measures that would abolish abortion in Oklahoma, prohibit pornography (increasing penalties for child pornography), and forbid drag performances for children. Also included in this round of bills are a number of proposed marriage and family laws, including the “Covenant Marriage Act”, a bill prohibiting no-fault divorce, and the “Make Adoption Affordable Again Act”.
Likely anticipating the pushback that would arrive from certain quarters, Deevers defended these moral measures in a press release: “Sadly, the left’s century-long assault on morality and decency has been so successful that some have come to accept as normal a society that is drowning in hardcore pornography, prenatal homicide, and sexual performances for children. None of this is normal…Opposing these evils does not mean we are extremists. It means we are sane.”
Deevers, who is also a Baptist pastor, continues: “We can and should imagine and move toward a society that celebrates virtue in the public square rather than vice. We can restore normalcy, decency, and morality; we can protect the most vulnerable, restore a high view of marriage, and shield children from explicit material that can warp their innocent minds. We simply must have the courage to stand against the most radical and degenerate elements of the far-left.”
Make Oklahoma Healthy Again
And just when it seemed that he had exhausted all his ammunition, on January 23rd Senator Deevers announced yet another six bills under the banner of “Make Oklahoma Healthy Again”, an obvious riff on Robert F. Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) agenda. These latest Oklahoma bills are headlined by the “Medical Freedom Act”, which ensures the “right of a person to refuse any medical procedure, medical treatment, device, vaccine, or prophylactic shall not be questioned or interfered with in any manner.” It also gives protection to whistleblowers and dissenters in the medical world.
Deevers reiterates in the Oklahoma Senate press release: “The horrors inflicted upon the people of this country, including Oklahomans, during the Covid years must never be allowed to take place again. SB943 would establish that the government may never again do what they did, as well as protect the brave doctors willing to blow the whistle when they see obvious corruption like we saw in 2020 and 2021.”
Pray for Dusty, the State of Oklahoma, and Your Local Leaders
Senator Dusty Deevers has come out firing on offense in early 2025, and is proving that he was not elected by the hardy folks of southwestern Oklahoma to merely fill a seat or kowtow to outsider interests, but to act on the mandate he has been given. Christians in Oklahoma should actively support these bills in their families, churches, and communities. And believers everywhere should not only pray for Dusty Deevers and the State of Oklahoma, but ask God to raise up more brave men like him in every county, state, and nation (Luke 10:2).
